One of AACF’s board members, Diana Gonzales Worthen of Springdale, was honored by the Springdale School District for her work on the district’s Toyota Family Literacy Program grant.
The University of Arkansas recognized Worthen in a press release Tuesday, pointing out that Worthen initiated and wrote the $600,000, three-year grant for the Springdale schools. The program brings parents with limited English skills into their children’s schools for a minimum of 10 hours per week. They participate in English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for six hours per week, two hours in parent classes and then spend two hours with their children in their classrooms.
Worthen, who directs Project Teach Them All at the University of Arkansas, has been on the AACF board of directors since 2005.
