A Tale of Two Sundays

Soup Sunday, AACF

Thanks to our supporters throughout the state, our Soup Sunday events were big successes this year. We hit record turnout and fundraising milestones in both Little Rock and Northwest Arkansas. Combined, we brought in more than $110,000 and served soup to 1,700 guests.

The biggest crowd we’ve ever had – about 1,100 people – joined us for the 31st annual Little Rock Soup Sunday on Feb. 19. The Flying Balloon-o Brothers Trio provided music, over 60 items were auctioned and over 25 restaurants and vendors provided soups, breads, and desserts. Chef Peter Brave was a huge hit as he cooked and served roasted winter squash soup in the increasingly popular VIP room.

One week later, we set more records when 600 people showed up for the 11th annual Northwest Arkansas Soup Sunday in Springdale. Kids and their parents enjoyed music by the McFetridge Jazz Group, soup and bread from more than 31 local restaurants and suppliers, as well as our first-ever ice cream sundae bar. The table centerpieces provided by Mayfield Flowers & Designs created a beautiful setting in which to enjoy savory soups and time with friends. Thanks to volunteers from Northwest Arkansas Emerging Leaders and AmeriCorps, we were able to recycle and compost almost all the waste produced at the Springdale event.

We appreciate everyone for sponsoring, volunteering, and attending these events. Your support will give the children of Arkansas a stronger voice and help ensure that they have the resources needed to lead healthy and productive lives.

We’re already looking forward to next year. See you there!
